The 3/4 shift rail in the Mitsubishi/DSM W5M33 AWD transmission is notorious for breaking on hard 2-3 upshifts. The early 89-91 are even easier to break. In the old times it was typical to upgrade to the EvoIII forged steel part, however this has been long discontinued, and only fit the later 92+ cases, it also required grinding and clearancing to fit with non EVO rails.
We have developed a billet chrome-moly steel replacement that is drop in replacement for the stock cast steel DSM piece in any year DSM AWD transmission. It is tougher than tough and will not break or bend. These have been rigorously tested in a laboratory situation and in our own race cars. Failure of the original cast steel piece is more than inconvenient, as it can then allow the transmission to be put in two gears at once, causing a total lockup of the drive train, or worse.
We machine these from USA 4140 Chrome -Moly Steel in our shop right here in Illinois. These are CAD designed, FEA tested, CNC machined, destructively tested using a 50 Ton press, and finally endurance tested in a couple local daily drivers and our shop race car.
These are a replacement piece meant to be installed on your original shift rail. We prefer to install them on your rail as a service, but have decided to offer them for sale direct for those that want to install themselves. Please note: we cannot offer any technical support on self installed, as PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION IS REQUIRED.
If you purchase the rail end with installation service you will need to send us your 3/4 rail. Please be sure to leave contact information so we can email you about this. Thank You!
